A cloudburst is not just heavy rainfall it is an extreme downpour that releases an enormous volume of water in a very short span of time, often more than a month&rsquo;s worth of rain in a single hour. Unlike seasonal rains that build gradually, a cloudburst strikes suddenly, overwhelming everything in its path.

These events are most common in mountainous regions where warm, moisture-laden winds collide with cooler air, triggering intense and highly localized rainfall.

Floods caused by seasonal rains or river overflow usually allow some time for warnings, preparations, and evacuations. Cloudbursts, however, arrive without notice. Their intensity creates flash floods, landslides, and urban inundation within minutes. Houses collapse, roads wash away, and entire villages can be cut off in an instant. The speed and ferocity of cloudbursts make them far more destructive than ordinary rain floods.

Cloudbursts in Pakistan: A Growing Climate Threat

Severe flooding triggered by torrential rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has left hundreds dead and many more missing, with vast swathes of property, farmland, and livestock swept away in the deluge. Among the hardest-hit regions are Buner, Bajaur, Swat, Batgram and charsadda, where survivors continue to search desperately for loved ones amid the destruction. 
The Alkhidmat Foundation has mobilized emergency teams to lead rescue and relief operations. Volunteers and medical staff have been working around the clock to retrieve bodies, arrange funerals, and transport the injured to hospitals using Alkhidmat&rsquo;s ambulance service. 
In flood hit areas, relief workers distributed cooked meals, clean drinking water, tents, tarpaulin and other life essentials to displaced families struggling to cope with the disaster. &ldquo;Our teams are active on the ground, conducting rescue operations and taking preventive measures to minimize further damage,&rdquo; said Khalid Waqas, president Alkhidmat Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 
Meanwhile, medical camps have been established in flood hit areas to provide medical aid to flood affectees.&nbsp; 
Alkhidmat volunteers remain on high alert as water levels in the Kabul River continue to rise, threatening surrounding villages and towns. Alkhidmat disaster management department, supported by trained volunteers, have expanded their operations to other vulnerable districts.&nbsp; 
The provincial leadership of Alkhidmat has issued a &ldquo;red alert&rdquo; across all districts, warning of additional flooding in the coming days. &ldquo;Our rescue teams are closely monitoring river flows and are stationed near high-risk areas,&rdquo;&nbsp;Waqas&nbsp;added.

In a deeply personal update delivered on August 3, 2025, the President of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan detailed the timeline of suffering, resilience, and response in Gaza since the war began in late 2023.

From October 7, 2023, to March 18, 2025, humanitarian aid into Gaza was reduced to only 100&ndash;125 trucks per day. On March 18, the situation worsened dramatically: a complete blockade was enforced. No aid trucks were allowed into Gaza for the next four and a half months.

Now, at the start of August, a limited reopening has occurred. With this narrow window, Alkhidmat Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has taken immediate action.

On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Alkhidmat dispatched a humanitarian consignment carrying 100 tons of aid materials to Jordan, which will be forwarded to Gaza in cooperation with the Jordanian government. A second ship is scheduled to depart within 24 hours, bringing the total shipment to 200 tons in just two days.

These consignments contain ready to eat meals, baby milk, critical medicines, and hygiene supplies. If this pilot effort succeeds, Dr. Rehman confirmed that a new chartered plane will be sent weekly, depending on logistical permissions.

The aid may route through Jordan or Egypt&rsquo;s Al Arish port, depending on border access.

Alkhidmat&rsquo;s role in Gaza is not new. Until the March 18, 2025 blockade, the organization had already sent 21 humanitarian consignments and one chartered plane, delivering more than 4,000 tons of aid&nbsp;via trucks into Gaza.

Even during the strictest lockdown, Alkhidmat&rsquo;s nine local staff members in Gaza kept critical services running. They managed daily food procurement and distribution, cooking hot meals for thousands of families, despite inflated prices and severe risk.

Alkhidmat&rsquo;s reach extends beyond Gaza. In Egypt, over 125,000 Palestinian refugees have been displaced across various cities. Alkhidmat has registered 5,000 families and supports them with rent, food, hygiene, and education.

A dedicated school is educating 300 children in Cairo. In addition, 57 orphan led families have been housed in five fully furnished residential towers. Each orphan is provided with a $50 monthly stipend, with 160 orphans currently under care in Egypt.

We Stand with Gaza": Alkhidmat Foundation's President Shares Urgent Update Amid Gaza's Ongoing Siege

<h2 dir="ltr">Over 1,000 Stranded in the Mountains as Disaster Unfolds</h2>

On the night of 22 July 2025, flash floods and landslides struck the high altitude region of Babusar Top, located in the Diamer District of Gilgit Baltistan. The intense rainfall caused road closures and triggered landslides that left more than 1,000 people stranded at over 13,000 feet above sea level. The NDMA issued an urgent appeal for immediate assistance as access to the region was cut off from both sides.

In response, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan &nbsp;launched a joint relief operation in coordination with NDMA and the Commandant FCNA. Given the region&rsquo;s remote terrain and critical weather conditions, this operation tested the preparedness and agility of the relief network&nbsp; and Alkhidmat delivered.

<h2 dir="ltr">Alkhidmat&rsquo;s Swift Deployment on the Ground</h2>

&nbsp;

Recognizing the urgency, Alkhidmat activated its disaster response teams and dispatched both personnel and emergency vehicles. These included:

<h2 dir="ltr">Relief Delivered: Food, Medical Aid, and Compassion</h2>

Upon reaching stranded individuals, Alkhidmat teams prioritized life saving needs. In freezing temperatures and with no access to food, over 500 people were provided freshly cooked meals, prepared on emergency stoves brought in by volunteers. Additionally, 100 food packages containing dry rations were distributed to families awaiting evacuation or safe passage.

Medical teams accompanying the operation also treated cases of:

The deployment of the Mobile Health Unit allowed emergency care to be provided directly on site, a crucial factor in preventing escalation of health risks.

<h2 dir="ltr">The Terrain: A Race Against Time</h2>

Babusar Top, connecting Kaghan Valley with Chilas, is one of Pakistan&rsquo;s most scenic but hazardous routes especially during monsoon season. With sharp cliffs, narrow passes, and unpredictable weather, even a small landslide can isolate hundreds. In this case, multiple road collapses and continuous rain meant that conventional rescue operations were delayed increasing the urgency of immediate ground based support.

The success of Alkhidmat&rsquo;s initial response showcases the importance of localized, mobile, and community rooted rescue networks in such inaccessible zones.

Rescue at Babusar Top: Alkhidmat and NDMA Launch Joint Relief Operation After Flash Floods

PESHAWAR: The Alkhidmat Bano Qabil graduation ceremony was held on Sunday at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar, where over 10,000 students who completed free IT courses were awarded certificates, and top performers received laptops. The event marked the successful conclusion of the program&rsquo;s first phase and the official launch of Bano Qabil Phase Two, which includes 28 additional advanced courses. 
Engineer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and the founding figure behind the Bano Qabil program, presided as chief guest. In his keynote address, he underscored the urgent need for a unified education system in Pakistan and criticized the state&rsquo;s longstanding neglect of education as a national priority. 
&ldquo;Since independence, education has been divided along class lines, denying equal opportunity to millions,&rdquo; Rehman said. &ldquo;Public schools have been deliberately weakened, forcing families to turn to expensive private institutions. It&rsquo;s time to change this system.&rdquo; 
The Bano Qabil program, run by Alkhidmat Foundation, aims to equip Pakistan&rsquo;s youth who make up over 65 percent of the population with market-relevant IT skills free of charge. In the first phase, more than 186,000 students applied from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and over 25,000 appeared in what was the province&rsquo;s largest-ever IT entrance test. The selected 10,000 students completed 16 specialized courses over a three-month period. 
During the event, Emir JI Pakistan Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Professor Dr Hafizur Reham, Emir JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Abdul Wasi and President Alkhidmat Foundation KP Khalid Waqas inaugurated the second phase of the program, which will now offer a total of 44 IT courses. They also distributed certificates and laptops to the graduating students. 
Alkhidmat Foundation leaders in attendance included Provincial General Secretary Sabir Hussain Awan, District Emir Bahrullah Khan Advocate, General Secretary Shakir Siddiqui, Program Director Mian Sohaibuddin Kakakhel and Alkhidmat district president Arbab Abdul Haseeb. The ceremony was attended by educators, business leaders including Sarhad Chamber &nbsp;Commerce President Fazal Muqeem Khan, social media activists, journalists, students, and their families. 
Speaking on the program&rsquo;s growth, Khalid Waqas said, &ldquo;Bano Qabil has become a model for empowering youth. We&rsquo;re not just offering courses, we&rsquo;re building futures.&rdquo; 
In a passionate conclusion, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also voiced solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine, condemning the ongoing humanitarian crisis and urging the Pakistani government to take a firm moral stand on the international stage. 
&ldquo;Bano Qabil is more than a program&mdash;it&rsquo;s a vision for a better Pakistan,&rdquo; he said.
